Bushcare was a hands-on way for us to help restore the local environment by removing invasive plants that were taking over the area. Armed with gloves, loppers, and determination, we hacked out thick weeds and overgrown bushes that were choking native plants and limiting their access to sunlight and water. It was tough work, especially pulling out deep roots and cutting back stubborn growth, but it was satisfying to see the space slowly clear and return to a more natural state. By the end, the area looked healthier and more open, giving native species a better chance to thrive.

Today I participated in the bushcare program. Jack taught all of us about the different weeds in the area and native bush so we knew which ones to remove. We then spent the session deweeding the area making sure to pull them from the root to help restore the natural environment. I also got to bond with other flats to interdigitate.

Tonight was our induction into Toowong Rotary club. We are so excited to continue the connection between King’s and the Rotary Club as we thoroughly enjoyed our involved in the club, their meeting as well as their initiatives last year. We hope to attend meetings frequently to stay up to date with what is going on in the community and ways we can involve ourselves and King’s College in service to others.

On Sunday, Stefi and I ran Clean up Australia Day for King’s! We were so excited to have close to 60 people come down to support us and to clean up our local environment. It was a great morning and a HUGE improvement from last year. We hope this motivation continues throughout the year so we can keep working to give back and make a larger difference in the broader King’s community. Thank you to everyone who came along, we really appreciate it!
