An update to a rescued Koala XMan rescued on 6 April 2026 from Grevillea Park, Mt Gravatt East. He was high perched in a tree but I noticed a laceration under his chin and his eye looked a little crusty. Koala Rescue Brisbane South were called to help to rescue him by setting a humane trap so he would come down in his own time then he would go to the wildlife hospital. When he was rescued it looked as if he had puncture wounds on his legs and blood on his mouth. All the tell tale signs of a dog attack. This park is know for off lead dogs which is illegal in QLD. 75% of koalas do not survive a dog attack. Even saliva from a dog, the bacteria can kill them. After being rescued it was mentioned he may have experienced a motor vehicle strike and had conjunctivitis. Either way, no one reported it. I am glad to say that X-Man is still under vet care, doing well and has been taken off some medication. Before going into care, X-Man was in good body condition, weighing 7.4kg and 3-4 years of age. Sending lots of healing vibes your way big man.

Helped move chairs and tables in preparation for ANZAC DAY!!

This week I spent hours trying to save a Koala named Rita who lives in the Broadwater Park in Mansfield, Qld. She had a very dirty bottom, which is a common sign of chlamydia. This is a serious disease impacting koalas in SE Qld and if not treating early is fatal. Vaccines are new for such a treatment however not readily available. She passed away after being taking to the wildlife hospital. She was 6 years old, 3.9kg, a body score of 2/10. RIP beautiful girl. The Mansfield area on the Bulimba Creek catchment is a hotspot for chlamydia and the habitat is covered in non-native flora, toxic plants that are not kind to wildlife along the creek beds. Our koalas are being forced to live in an urban desert and are slowly suffering and starving.

Today I detoured on my way home to check on a koala reported high in a tree on the side of a busy road. I spotted a relaxed koala, I think it is a girl hanging out on the perimeter of Whites Hill Reserve. Thanks to Koala Rescue Brisbane South for keeping an eye on it. Too often koala's are trying to get to their habitat but unfortunately have to cross multiple lanes of traffic and at risk of motor vehicle strikes. Koalas now live in our suburbs due to loss of habitat.

I attended the STI talk which really broadened my understanding on sexual health and taught me a lot of new things. This was a great experience and really insightful. I forgot to post this from before the break
